This was a short week, but FULL of fun. We started off on April Fool's Day (a personal favorite). We talked about it and what the difference is between a fun joke and a mean trick. So then when snack time came around, I offered them all a "lollipop" after I had served them the usual apples, oranges and goldfish… They all willingly accepted and popped them in their mouths, only to discover that they had been FOOLED. They were actually tomatoes! So funny! They all laughed and started shouting "Happy Fools Day!!" Then we made a plan to make some funny lollipops for the moms when they came to pick up.
We did an estimation activity talking about big things and small things. How many small fingerprints would fit inside an egg and how many big(ger) stickers would fit in the same sized egg? After doing the activity, counting up the answers, we compared what our guesses were and what answers we got. They love to do things like this! They are so smart!
Our sensory table was filled with eggs and water and the kids had fun making up games to do with this very open ended activity. They ended up spending lots of time filling up eggs and letting the water drip through the tiny holes and made designs on the patio. Very artistic!
Bubble blowing was another favorite this week. It was such lovely weather outside, we had to get all the outdoor things out!
The kids made these darling Easter egg paintings. They chose which colors and how exactly to make it. We talked about what shape eggs were beforehand, but that was about it. They decided on grass at the bottom too. Adorable.
Team building small groups were working together to find ten things hidden in each picture. I love watching them working in small groups. I usually split up the groups that are naturally playing together that day to create more camaraderie amongst them.
More small groups, this time doing math activities. These are very simple math problems, that are becoming easy for these smarty pants kids, but it's always good to practice and completing work pages like this will be a more regular thing in kindergarten.
For a fun craft activity during table time, the kids got to decorate little chicks. They turned out pretty cute, and the kids loved it.
While working with small groups, I sometimes have to sit and pay close attention to what they are doing, which means another group of kids needs to be engaged in a quiet, self-guiding activity. So here are Logan and Jeff quietly doing a puzzle together, while I sat at the table and guided Hawken, Ryan and Lullaby through a more challenging workbook activity. Then the groups switched and I was able to help the next group. These guys have our routine down with very few hiccups along the way! You can tell we are nearing the end of the school year!
More pictures from outside time, they were SUPER excited about the slides this day. It was hilarious watching them. Sliding upside down, making long trains, climbing back up the slides… Too fun. These kids have the BEST time together!
