Week 12 (Dec. 9, 10, 11)

Our last preschool week before Christmas break was BUSY! First we made snow! I bought this powder, and the kids each got a handful to dump into the bucket.  After I added the water, they were AMAZED to watch the snow grow bigger and bigger! So much fun.

It kept expanding and there was too much to keep at school, so we sent home a bag with each of the preschoolers to play with at home. When you live in Houston, this is probably the only snow you'll see. Another fun thing to do is to freeze it for an hour or more, so it really feels like SNOW!

We read a book about stars. The book explained that the stars are blessings and things we should be thankful for. It focused especially on people. At table time, we talked about the people we thought of as a blessing in our lives. I wrote the name of the person that each preschooler came up with, and they wrote their own name on the back. It was sweet to see the people they thought of.

We did a two part table time time activity with these salt dough ornaments. Not everyone was interested in measuring, or mixing, but everyone LOVED seeing their own handprints!

After I baked them and they were cooled the next day, the preschoolers got to paint them white and add glitter. Jackson was especially particular about getting white paint in each finger print, he was happy to make his ornament just so.

I LOVED the finished products. They all turned out beautifully! Good job preschoolers!  We have lots more salt dough in our future!

The preschoolers asked to read our stars book again and kept talking about their blessing people, and so we made these impromptu wooden stars with the words "friends" on one and "family" on the other. Since those were the people that they loved the most.

Our winters here are so mild, that we have to enjoy them outside! We ate snack outside two days in a row and the preschoolers really enjoyed it. Here is Warren trying to convince Jared to try pears, and it worked!

Christian was jumping so high, but I caught him on the way down in every single picture. Maybe next time I can time it better!

Lullaby and Abby were playing "family" and this was their house.

The preschoolers spent a lot of time working with play-doh. Sofia was especially excited about making cookies and more ornaments, like we had done for table time with the salt dough.

Turn-taking is getting easier and easier for this group of friends. They played this fishing game and would call to their friends when it was the next friends' turns. So sweet.

The kids are at different learning stages, and during small group and one-on-one times I am able to help them all progress academically in the area that will prove most helpful for each preschooler individually.

I brought out a few new toys and the preschoolers couldn't get enough of them! We played "Christmas" and pretended to open presents and even practiced what to say when they opened a gift they didn't love… I wonder if they'll remember their nice Christmas manners on REAL Christmas.

I brought out a Christmas train for the preschoolers to play with too. So fun.

Of course, there was lots of dressing up, as usual.

Before the parents came for pick up we listened to a few Christmas songs, and sang along, and the preschoolers got to wear these silly reindeer glasses. Such fun. I hope everyone has a lovely Christmas break! See you all on Wednesday January 6th!
